2009

2009 has been awesome. The good times definitely overrule the bad times.

Organized a surprise birthday party for Ming with Sean. We had it at TGIF, One Utama. The look on Ming's face when he came in was priceless =) We did a good job, didn't we, Sean? :)

Went for a field trip with some Anthropology classmates to Kampar, Perak for our assignment to interview some of the natives located in the outskirts of the town. Stayed at a fancy hotel for the night and played cards until the wee hours of the morning. ;D

Carried out a play onstage for my Music class assignment. It was hilarious. We did a remix of The Phantom & The Opera and added humor into the storyline. Like, sick, crazy humor.

Went for my first ever MPO experience at KLCC to experience classical music. There was this"NO PHOTOGRAPHY" policy in the hall but rules can be broken sometimes :D

Spent half the time searching the stage for the cute Scottish piccolo player.
(It just came to my mind, that if a person who plays the piano is called a pianist and a person who plays the guitar is a guitarist, is a piccolo player a piccolist? Haha well just wondering. It would be so cool to be called a piccolist.)

Enjoyed a simple but special birthday outing with June and Vivian, my dearest best friends in the whole wide world!

Celebrated Mooncake Festival at Pei Wen's place with more college people. Ate steamboat for dinner and played with candles, then went in to her house and watched PS: I Love You while complaining how cheesy it was, then set out for Lookout Point in Cheras to catch the stunning overview of Cheras at night.

Had a simple photoshoot at a lake with Vivian. The photographer was a really nice guy from her church and we had so much fun.

Worked as a part timer at that pink and white shop in Pyramid for like 1 and a half months. Learned how to put on make up the proper way. But I won't be using those skills I learned unless I really need to. The whole working experience was an eye opener to what the real world really is.

Had a wonderful time in Melbourne with Ming and his family! Went around the city for shopping, sight seeing and food-hunting :D I still miss that holiday so much. It was perfect.

Celebrated Vivian's birthday along with June at Pyramid. Went for a 3D movie and took a few pictures after that. The birthday girl FINALLY turned 19 ;)

Attended the INTI Ball for the first time and had to dance onstage with John. Both of us won 24 vouchers of free New Zealand Natural ice cream. Lol. I stilll remember events of that night quite clearly :)

Been spending so many vouchers eating New Zealand ice cream with friends and family. And I think my favorite flavors of the lot would be the HOKEY POKEY and BOISENBERRY.

Well I wouldn't say that going for farewells is a nice thing. I get emo easily. But I'm glad that I got to spend some quality time with some of my friends before they left to pursue their studies overseas. I miss them very much.

Celebrated Christmas in Singapore with my mom and my relatives! Had a stroll at Orchard Road on Christmas eve. The decorations were nais.

Next time I'm going to make a Fererro Rocher christmas tree too, but a mini one :)

Entered into my first year with Ming yesterday ;) Yup, we're officially one year old now!
It's been a beautiful. Just simply beautiful. Thanks for everything.

I feel so blessed and so thankful because I've learned so much and smiled so much too.

Despite the tough times, there was still alot of room for joy and fresh hope :) I think perseverance is the key to everything.

At least I know that 2009 has ended on a good note. I can't wait for 2010!

Blessed New Year, all of you lovely people! :) God bless.

Christmas 2009

I've been spending half of my Christmases in Singapore since I was a child. This year was no different.

Orchard Road had always been my favorite hangout spot in Singapore because of the MALLS but this trip wasn't about shopping anymore. It was more on family bonding moments. On Christmas eve, I wanted to sleep because I was really tired. But I went to Orchard Road anyway to check out the decorations.

The best Christmas tree ever!

It was packed to the brim with people. 70% of the crowd were youngsters. Many of them were holding "poppers" (spray cans containing shampoo-like foam) and they would just randomly spray foam on their friends and even on strangers! I had to endure all that the whole night. Haha. It was kinda cool though, watching people getting sprayed until their heads were totally shampooed with foam. It's SNOWING IN SINGAPORE!!!

This wasn't the White Christmas I wanted, but it was close :D

Because it was terribly jampacked with people, I felt like I was swimming through a sea of people.

This was before it got really hectic.

Five minutes later, it got crazy.

You could barely see the end of the road.

It was a unique experience, being stuck in a slow-crawling crowd on Christmas eve. When the clock struck 12, things started to get heavy. I didn't stay for that. I left after 12 and headed back to my uncle's place in Ang Mo Kio.

Christmas morning was spent with my relatives. They took my mom and I to the big market in Tiong Bahru. The last time I went there was five years ago, I think. It has changed so much since then.

I ate the famous "Singapore Lor Mee". My mom loved it, but I thought it tasted rather bland... except the fried wontons. Those were so yummy! And the fish was tasty too. :) Everything but the starchy thing and the noodles.

There were plenty of stalls to choose from. Some sold interesting stuff, like this one.
I don't know why it's called Museum Coffee. But I'm guessing it must be pretty ancient.

I finally got to meet my new baby cousin for the first time! I'd only seen her in pictures, but on Christmas day, I got to see her in person. She's such a doll!
She's super cute and super photogenic. When I held up the camera and asked her to smile, she did!

Kyla :)

I'm missing her already.

Anyway, it feels good to be back home. I'd been going for farewell outings lately. :( And there's still quite a lot of things to be done before New Year. Tsk tsk.

Ming's arriving on Saturday! Whee! :D Oh, and I'm gonna enrol for one more semester in college because I still have to do another Science subject and that English research writing class.

Yup, I've made up my mind and I know where I'm going.

You're the best thing I never knew I needed.

Ne-Yo's new song is stuck in my head. And I can't help thinking of a bunch of people when I hear it.

I know I'm not much of a blogger this month. But I have pictures to post, so those should make up for the lack of updates.

This is indeed a sad month because people are leaving. Not one, not two, but like, 10 or more :(
The last AUP farewell on December 6, 2009.

I could just count them off my fingertips. And it's depressing. Especially since I won't be leaving yet, so I'll have to face the loss of my dearest friends as they continue to pursue their degrees in the realms of the States.

Korean BBQ with Pei Wen, Zack, Pauline and Zane on Dec 21

Zack you're entertaining and you're easy to talk to.
And you're so much fun. Enjoy Nebraska.

Charles you've been a nice friend and I enjoyed all our conversations and outings.
All the best in Louisiana!

Pui Mun, you are so bubbly and you when you laugh, it's contagious.
You've been a great person to hang out with, and I'll always remember that. :)
Have fun in Iowa.

KC, you made classes interesting because of your sense of humor and well, for being who you are!
Kick some ass in San Fransisco, okay? :)

Nate, thanks for the fun and for the clubbing invitations. :P
Now you've finally achieved your California dream.
I'm happy for you :)

Su Ting, such a cutie pie!
Good luck in Michigan!

Jia Yang, we used to go through the whole "OMG which American uni to transfer to?!?" phase together.
Now that you're halfway there, don't give up on that dream of yours :)
Update me from Arizona!

Adrian, have I told you what a cool friend you've been?
Well, I just did. ;) Enjoy New York!!

Vinoddddd. Random. Crazzzy. But you know how to make me smile.
I'll miss our conversations and movie-sessions and popcorn stealing moments.
Don't forget all that when you're in Wisconsin, okay?

There are more to be added onto the list, but don't worry I have not forgotten about you :)

I miss college life so much. AUP life, to be exact. Freedom. Fun. Stress. More fun.

AUP Farewell, August 2009

Going for all those farewells has made me realize this: I'm not over USA.
I thought I could put it behind me after I got back from Melbourne, and just focus on Australian universities, but I can't suppress my own desires of studying in the States. See. It's complicated. Lol. But at the end of the day, it's not where I want to go, but where I'm destined to be.

Well it's Christmas eve tomorrow and I'll be heading down to Singapore. I think I spend almost every Christmas there. Lol. Next year, I wanna have a white Christmas. :D

Thinking about January 2nd 2010 keeps me smiling.

Stay tuned to find out :D

Three Lessons

Lessons learned last month:

Lesson One:
One of my lecturers once said this: True friends at work are scarce and hard to find. You can never fully trust anyone at work, because sometimes, the person that you trust the most could be the one who disappoints you. Everyone is selfish in business, and that's just the way it is.

That's why I didn't finish my full 8 weeks at Bloop. I got off in my 6th week.
It's a long story.

Lesson Two:
When one door closes, another one opens.

An Australian property development team came down to KL for two weeks. I worked with them for 3 days, and I was exposed to a better insight of sales and business. What I earned in the 3 days with them was more than what I earned in 2 weeks at Bloop.

It was actually a blessing in disguise!

Lesson Three:
When I changed my mind about going to the USA and decided to apply to universities in Melbourne, I constantly asked myself if I was doing the right thing.
I was planning to fly to Melbourne in Feb next year if I got accepted into Monash (Clayton), and I did get accepted. But all of a sudden, my interests changed. Once again, I decided to venture away from Linguistics and move over to Communication. Due to personal matters, I would be pursuing my degree in Malaysia for another year or so. I was disappointed, because for the past few months, I'd just been craving university life abroad.

Sometimes you may plan things for the future, but always leave room for changes. You don't know when they might drop by. Usually, their visits happen when you least expect them to.
But there is always a reason for everything.

I still don't know if Communication is my thing yet. But I'm willing to give it a shot.
I won't know until I try.

Wish me the best of luck ;)
