Moved Out!

Moving out of my apartment wasn't as easy as I thought it'd be. First, the packing consumed almost two days. There was the hassle of allocating my stuff into boxes while I decided what was trash and what wasn't. Then, the cleaning wore me out.

I swept, vacuumed and mopped the floors. I dusted the blinds and wiped the window sills. I cleaned the inside of the refrigerator and wiped the kitchen counters. I also tried to make the bathroom mirror glisten, but the stains were too stubborn so I gave up after several tiresome attempts. I made numerous trips to the garbage bin outside the apartment because there was too much trash to throw away, including that ragged old mop and the bristly blue broom which few days ago, was the tool I'd used to rid a nasty big roach.

I was so grateful for Doris who came by on Saturday night to help. On Sunday evening, Cathy and Taylor arrived to move the boxes into the storage building they'd rented for the summer. I was finally ready to leave the apartment I'd called home for the past 9 months.

My bedroom was pretty spacious. I'd decorated my wall with photos of my loved ones and I had a table lamp which I'd turn on nearly every night before I went to bed. That lamp bathed the room in a subtle glow, making the cozy room cozier. Aside from that, the furry pink rug in the center of the room added a splash of color to the decor.

It was a really nice change from dorm life. What I don't miss are the occasional roach invasions, creaky old floors and the frequent howl of the sirens every hour of the day because the apartment was situated near the main road.

It's amazing how quickly time flies. Just a year ago I was dragging my heavy suitcases into an almost empty bedroom and frowning at the boring white walls. Within the next day or so, I'd spruced up the room with photographs and soft toys. It would be my home for about a year, and I wanted it to be cozy and comfy.

That school year has ended and a new one will begin in a few months. I'm moving into a different apartment with a very good friend of mine. More unpacking, furniture shopping and decorating to do. For now, I'm going to bask in serenity and enjoy the rest of my summer.
