Due to the absence of wifi at home, I wasn't able to blog for a week. But with the internet up and running smoothly now, I'll be updating my blogs more frequently. :)
My summer's going really well and I'm entirely grateful for all the joy and blessings I've received all summer. I've been living with amazing people and their generosity is overwhelming. I had the option of returning to Malaysia for the summer, but after weighing the cost and time, I decided that staying back in the States would be a better option. For the price of my roundway flight to Malaysia, I could be doing some light traveling in the States and gaining work experience. So, I chose to stay. I do miss Malaysia - no doubt. It's been a year since I saw my family and there's not a day when they don't cross my mind. Their faces are fresh in my memory and their voices still ring in my ears. But the thought of seeing them again in December keeps me motivated :) You have no idea how excited I am!
When I was living with the Neals, I used to sit out on the porch some evenings and stare at the skyline. It was refreshing; something I never really got to do back in Malaysia because the vastness of the Malaysian sky was always obscured by towering buildings. But out in the American countryside, buildings are structured relatively low with the absence of skyscrapers, leaving plenty of room for clean skies.
I did some reading while I was there. I finished the 3rd Hunger Games book (Mockingjay) in a couple of days, mainly because I felt the storyline was a little slow compared to the previous two books. Don't get me wrong, I think The Hunger Games is an awesome trilogy with packed with plenty of suspense and surprises. But the third book was a bit of a damper. I wasn't thrilled about the ending. If you've read it, you'll know what I'm talking about.
Last week, I came to stay with my cousin and her husband. Dina and Rob have been amazing hosts, like the Neals. They're so warm and accommodating.
Okay, what else is new? Oh! I got a haircut yesterday. I hadn't had a haircut since June 2011. I've always had bad experiences at hair salons. I'd go in telling them my preferred length, only to have them cut an inch or two shorter than my desired length. Yesterday, I told the hairdresser to chop off the split ends and yellowish tips. (I've dyed my hair multiple times, which explains the fancy dip-dye effect :P)
I swear I never dyed my hair blond. This was the product of faded auburn dye.
So she obediently trimmed 2 inches off my hair and said I was done. The yellow tips and split ends were gone, but I still looked the same. The length didn't seem any shorter. And I thought to myself: I came all the way for a haircut, so I might as well go all the way.
I then asked if she could chop a few more inches off. So she did, and 10 minutes later, I stepped out of the salon with shorter, lighter and livelier hair. I've never asked a hairdresser to trim beyond my requested length. But this time was different. I wanted a change, and though it wasn't a drastic one, it was a tangible difference nevertheless.
Here are some before & after photos:

Okay, maybe there's not a whole lot of difference in terms of length. It's still kinda long but the layers are more prominent in the front. But anyway, all modesty aside... I love my new hair! I usually despise my hair the first few days after a haircut, but not this time. ;)
One of the things I really like about summer is the skies don't darken until past 8.30 PM.
This is what 8PM looks like.
This is my first summer in the States. So far, it's the best one ever. :)
