The Accident

I meant to talk about the accident that I got into a few weeks ago. But I'll do that another day.

This morning on my way to college, I witnessed a real accident right in front of my eyes. Here's what happened. A Bangladeshi worker was cycling on his way to work, and he tried to cut into the busy lane. He was not aware of a blue car coming up behind him; the car could not stop in time, and its front knocked into the back wheel of the Bangla's bike. So there was a loud BANG and the bike was thrown into the middle of the road, with the back wheel badly distorted. The Bangla and his belongings were flung a few metres away from the bike. The bike slammed into the side of a white car on the next lane, causing a visible dent.

My mom and I were too stunned to speak; because we were directly behind the white car and we'd witnessed the whole accident. It seemed like an exerpt from an action movie. At that moment, all I could think of was: Thank God that man is not dead! He missed death by an inch. As he slowly gathered his belongings (a pair of dirty wool gloves, a squashed plastic bottle and his damaged bicycle), I felt really sorry for the guy. I saw him clutching his right ankle after the fall, and I'm sure it must have hurt like hell. He didn't suffer any external bleeding, though. But my mom was worried there might be internal injuries. We watched him hobble to the other side of the road, and the driver of the blue car got down to negotiate the case. And that was the last I saw of them.

I'm relieved for that Bangla, that he didn't die, and that he's not bleeding badly or anything. It really got me thinking. He probably grew up in a poor country and was forced to come to Malaysia to do hard labor just to feed his family back home. To him, Malaysia seemed like the ideal country; civilization, high technology, peace. And if he'd passed away in that accident, would he be remembered here? What was going to happen to his family in Bangladesh? One life taken away just like that...

We are so fortunate to be born into families who can provide us with education, nutritious food, and a sedentary lifestyle. Consider yourself to be blessed because you have the option to choose what to eat, where to go, when to work, and etc. We have a life. Let's own it.

PS: I changed my layout again!

And it took me an hour to get the music player, chat box and the links all back in place. Unfortunately, some of the links went missing during the process. I'm sorry :(
Please drop me a message and I'll link you up; the ones I've lost.
